Portfolio (Pitch letter to Brenda Waters at KDKA-TV (local CBS affiliate) regarding a Minority Internship program that the Allegheny County Bar Association sponsors annually. As a result of this letter and a follow-up phone call, Brenda shadowed two of the students and featured them on a 3-minute piece on her "On a Positive Note" segment. Another phone call about the program produced a photo op in the New Pittsburgh Courier later that month.)
Dear Brenda,To improve the public perception of the legal profession and to offer opportunities to minority students, the Allegheny County Bar Association sponsored the ninth annual Minority Summer Law Internship Program this summer, which will commence with a luncheon at the Top of the Triangle at noon on Friday, Aug. 10. The Minority Summer Law Internship Program, which was created by the ACBA Committee on Opportunities for Minorities and the Homer S. Brown Law Association, was designed to provide City of Pittsburgh high school minority students with positive reinforcement through the creation of jobs, education and self esteem. The Bar Association places the students with a participating law firm or law department. The students are required to work full-time at the selected offices for eight weeks. The students are also matched up with a mentor from the Homer S. Brown Law Association. The mentors act as a sounding board when the interns have questions or need advice. They also teach the interns survival skills they may need as they grow in the business world. Would you be interested in interviewing some of the interns who participated in the program this summer for “On a Positive Note?” I will call you next week to see if you are interested. In the meantime, please feel free to call me with any questions at (412) xxx-xxxx. Thank you for your consideration. |
